Inspiration
In order to give an effective response to Covid-19 in a comprehensive, global way and that serves as a basis for other future pandemics, it is mandatory, a fundamental right, to take into account the gender perspective. The proposal is part of the investigation of the inequality that women have suffered in the measures taken so far, negatively impacting their health. Surely, if a deep investigation is not carried out, now, and at the POSTCOVID-19 stage, it will be very difficult to obtain data that allows a new decision-making, more egalitarian and, finally, more just and free. In addition, it is intended to show the great competences (that despite the inequality described), women have to face in any organization the new paradigm that the post-Covid poses to the world in the future.
What it does
The Lancet magazine editorial for the month of April stated that "Covidie-19 adverse effects such as hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and lung diseases are more frequent in Men and are related to smoking and drinking alcohol. Behaviors clearly associated with norms male. Women carry a different type of cargo on the Covid-19. Inequalities disproportionately affect their well-being and economic resilience during the blockade. Homes are under stress, childcare, care for the elderly and housework often fall on women. There is also concern about the increase in domestic violence. However, reproductive health services, as well as prenatal and postnatal care, are altered. "Therefore, the global critical situation produced by the Covid-19 pandemic has exposed discrimination against women, in the moment to face its effects, unfortunately in all areas, health, economy, communication. Again, the patriarchal model of society that still survives and, subsidiarily, the inexorable sexist violence. Another form of violence is little or no interest in considering women as a professional major prepared in "soft skills" to face current and future challenges in directing or collaborating in the necessary recovery of any institution, due to their relationship skills, leadership, process innovation, empathy, connection and focus on the welfare of people in general.
Based on this premise, the proposed objectives are:
- Detect how to respond to a health emergency by normalizing roles that affect women's health, in the definition given by the World Health Organization.
- To show that the specificity of FEMAN sex is absent in research and therapeutic decision-making against Covidien-19.
- To be able to stop discrimination against women in PostCOVID recovery 19.
- Find out the role that media communication has played in the persistence of gender inequality.
- Establish a gender perspective so that its importance is not forgotten in future pandemics that, surely, we will suffer given the majority behavior of contempt for the environment.
- And, define the importance of women in the recovery process of post-Covid organizations, due to the skills developed in their professional learning.
How we built it
The research proposal would focus on the following research areas, typified and numbered in the interdisciplinary project proposed by the UdG: TREATMENT: Does the treatment applied to COVID19, in this emergency case and the vaccine being studied, take into account the health of women? Urgent decisions can be made from two perspectives: following the current, undoubtedly patriarchal model, or, through a change in the social paradigm, inclusive, that women take into account.
Challenges we ran into
Obviously, the objectives of this research proposal focuses on the latter, and it is intended to materialize in the following actions:
- Does the medical treatment being applied take into account the organic specificity of women?
- Study of the vaccine, is the man only taken as a prototype?
- Mental health of the woman related to the greater stress she is suffering from having assumed the role of "caregiver" and also the limitation that her professional life supposes.
- Large number of elderly women living alone or in residences
- Male violence and confinement.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The economy should be subordinated to Health, to the environment, from a gender perspective, and not vice versa In this section we would focus research on women's health:
What we learned
POST-COVID19: CHANGE OF PARADIGM?
- How will it affect you to get out of a health emergency in which you have had to submit again to patriarchal roles
- The same male-female therapeutic model will be applied
- Occupational health: gender gap both in the professions that will be reserved for women and in wages
- “Soft” and professional skills and competences to help the organization of organizations after this global event.
What's next for DESIGUALDADES QUE SUFRE LA MUJER EN EL COVID19
- Set a precedent and establish the bases so that the next pandemic, the speed demanded by the moment, is not an obstacle nor does it imply steps back in health and gender perspective.
- Styles and content of the communication, do they respond to the patriarchal value system?
- The representation of women in various settings and in which they are invisible, including business.
- Proposals for a communication based on gender equality.
