Designing or renovating a home can be overwhelming.

You might have an idea for your dream bedroom, living room, exterior, or complete house—but turning that idea into something you can actually see usually requires multiple tools, technical knowledge, or expensive professional software.

I wanted to make that process simpler.

The idea behind DesignHome was to create one platform where someone could start with a simple idea and explore their home through floor plans, interior designs, exterior concepts, and 3D visualizations.

Instead of jumping between different tools, DesignHome brings the design process together in one place.

What it does

DesignHome helps people visualize and explore their home before making expensive real-world decisions.

Users can:

Generate and explore house floor plans Design and visualize interior spaces Experiment with exterior home designs Transform floor plans into 3D visualizations Explore different design ideas and layouts Iterate on concepts before starting construction or renovation

The goal is simple: make it easier for anyone to see their home idea before bringing it to life.

How I built it

I built DesignHome using Next.js, React, TypeScript, Node.js, and MongoDB, combined with AI-powered design and visualization workflows.

The platform connects different parts of the home design process—from generating layouts to visualizing interiors, exteriors, and 3D spaces.

A major focus was creating a simple user experience. Home design software can often feel complicated, so I worked on making the workflow easier to understand while still allowing users to explore multiple ideas.

Challenges I ran into

One of the biggest challenges was connecting different stages of home design into one smooth experience.

A floor plan, interior design, exterior visualization, and 3D model all represent different parts of the same home. Making those experiences feel connected rather than like separate tools required a lot of iteration.

Another challenge was creating results that were visually useful while keeping the experience fast and simple for people without design or technical experience.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm proud of turning a complex idea into a working platform.

Bringing together floor planning, interior visualization, exterior design, and 3D exploration into one product was one of the biggest accomplishments.

I'm also proud of creating a tool that can help people explore their ideas visually instead of trying to imagine everything from descriptions, sketches, or disconnected software.

What I learned

Building DesignHome taught me that a powerful product doesn't need to feel complicated.

I learned that the hardest part isn't always building individual features—it's creating a clear path between them.

I also learned the importance of iteration, user experience, and reducing unnecessary decisions. When people are designing a home, they should be thinking about their ideas—not struggling to understand the software.

What's next for DesignHome

Next, I want to make DesignHome more connected and useful throughout the entire home design journey.

Future improvements include:

More intelligent floor plan generation Better floor plan-to-3D workflows More interior and exterior design options Improved customization Faster design iterations More realistic visualizations A smoother workflow from an idea to a complete home concept

The long-term goal is to make home design more accessible.

You should be able to start with an idea and quickly see what your future home could look like.
