Our Solution

Community brings us together and fosters a sense of support and inspiration that is difficult to bring upon us when alone. Community is especially important to those suffering from a disability as surrounding themselves with people who suffer the same conditions could give them hope and meaning. Art is also an important coping skill for people suffering from disabilities as it can help channel their inner emotions. However, there exists many problems against artists with disabilities and one discussion that arises is how can we help artists with disabilities to find inspiration through a community and cultivate their creativity to grow their confidence and develop their artistic skills.

To combat the lack of community and underrepresentation of artists with a disability, I wanted to create a mobile app where artists with a disability from all over the world can foster a community through sharing and interacting with each others’ art. This app will help cultivate artists’ creative expression and identity by inspiring each other through their artwork and sharing their story.

Our Design

Through research, I was able to gather that 1 in 4 Americans have a disability (cdc.gov) and disabled artists are significantly underrepresented in the arts (arts.gov). A large majority of disabled individuals want community and 57% of those with disabilities suffer illnesses due to social isolation.

With these research findings, I wanted to add a community aspect into the app as well as allow the users to post posts to find community support. The user can share their artwork with other artists and receive support and feedback. There is a profile page that other users can see and the user uploads a picture of them, a quote that resonates with them, featured/favorite pictures, and recent posts.
