Inspiration

I wanted to explore a genre that is highly popular among younger social gaming audiences while adding a stronger progression and management layer. Many fashion-focused games emphasize outfit creation, while many tycoon games focus on resource optimization. Design to Shine combines both approaches, allowing players to express their creativity while building a successful fashion business. The project was also inspired by creator driven communities, where recognition, self expression, and social status are powerful motivations that keep players engaged over time.

What it does

Design to Shine is a multiplayer fashion simulation & management game where players transform a small atelier into a globally recognized fashion house. Players design clothing collections, acquire materials, trade with other players, upgrade their atelier, participate in Fashion Week runway events, and build their reputation within a shared fashion metropolis. The ultimate goal is to become an iconic designer through creativity, business growth, and community recognition.

How we built it

The project was developed through an iterative game design process focused on validating a clear gameplay loop: Design → Buy materials → Produce → Trade → Compete → Gain recognition → Repeat

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was balancing creativity and management. The game needed enough creative freedom for players to feel ownership over their designs while remaining accessible on mobile devices. Another challenge was creating a fair Fashion Week system. Explored different judging approaches before settling on a hybrid model that combines Fashion Council evaluation with community voting. I also had to carefully scope the project to ensure that the MVP remained realistic while preserving the long-term vision.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm especially proud of the social aspect of the game. Rather than focusing solely on progression, Design to Shine is built around recognition, competition, and community interaction. Fashion Week events, community voting, trading, and reputation systems encourage players to connect, compete, and showcase their creativity, helping the world feel alive and constantly evolving.

What we learned

Throughout this project, I explored how creativity, progression, competition, and social recognition can work together to create long-term engagement. Most importantly, I learned how social systems can transform a simple management game into a living community experience.

What's next for Design to Shine

I would like to introduce AI-assisted design tools, creator and influencer challenges, collaborations with real-world fashion brands, and potential integration of exceptional player creations into future Meta Horizon fashion skins. The long-term vision is to create a living fashion ecosystem where players don't simply follow fashion. They define it.
