🌟 Inspiration The inspiration behind Desi Kitchen came from the need to provide homestyle Indian vegetarian meals to working professionals, students, and families living in the Cayman Islands. While the region offers global cuisine, access to affordable, healthy, customizable Indian food with an easy multi-day ordering system was missing. We wanted to merge Indian culinary warmth with the Caribbean's relaxed service culture — making food ordering fast, emotional, and memorable.

🍱 What It Does Desi Kitchen is a mobile-first tiffin and catering application that allows users to:

📆 Pre-order meals for multiple days using a smart weekly planner

🛒 Choose meal plans like 5-day, 10-meal, or monthly subscriptions

🎛️ Set dietary preferences (e.g., Jain, no onion/garlic, low spice)

🚚 Get real-time delivery tracking across the Cayman Islands

📩 Receive in-app + WhatsApp notifications and digital invoices

💬 Place orders via app, website, or WhatsApp (elder-friendly)

🧾 Admin can generate invoices, manage menus, and assign deliveries via dashboard

🛠️ How We Built It Tech Stack: Frontend: React Native (for mobile) + Tailwind CSS (admin web UI)

Backend: Firebase (Firestore DB, Auth, Cloud Functions)

Notifications: WhatsApp API (for customer updates) + FCM (Push)

Payments (Optional): Cash on Delivery / Bank Transfer Upload

Hosting: Firebase Hosting (Admin), Expo Go (App)

🧩 Challenges We Ran Into Designing a user-friendly multi-day order planner that wasn’t overwhelming

Building offline-first support for areas with unstable internet

Handling cut-off logic (no order after 3 PM for next day) across time zones

Ensuring a smooth WhatsApp integration for non-app users

Making a simple and beautiful UI that fits both Indian and Caribbean tastes
