What it does

DeshConnect is a localized social media platform tailored specifically for the people of Bangladesh. It allows users to connect with friends and family, share updates in their native language, and stay updated with local news and community events while ensuring high data privacy and cultural relevance.

How we built it

We focused on creating a user-friendly interface that works smoothly even on low-bandwidth connections. The backend is designed to handle local data securely, and the frontend provides a seamless experience for sharing media and engaging in community discussions. Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was ensuring real-time performance and building a robust moderation system to keep the community safe. We also worked hard to optimize the app's performance for various mobile devices commonly used in our region.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating a platform that feels truly "ours." Successfully implementing a secure login system and a smooth newsfeed that prioritizes local content are our major achievements in this project.

What we learned

Through this project, we learned a lot about social media algorithms, the importance of data privacy, and how to scale an application to support a large number of concurrent users. We also gained deep insights into user experience (UX) design for our local audience.

What's next for DeshConnect

Our next steps include adding end-to-end encrypted messaging, integrating a local marketplace for small businesses, and introducing AI-driven content moderation to ensure a positive environment for all users.
