Inspiration
Millions of people struggle to understand their skin health, choose the right skincare products, and confidently shop for beauty products online. Existing solutions often provide isolated recommendations without considering lifestyle, climate, long-term skin changes, or transparency in how decisions are made. We asked ourselves: What if everyone had an intelligent digital twin that continuously learned about their skin, predicted future outcomes, and provided personalized beauty guidance backed by trustworthy AI?
That vision inspired DermaTwin AI—an autonomous AI-powered skin diagnostics platform that combines computer vision, intelligent agents, predictive analytics, virtual try-on, and blockchain-backed transparency into one seamless experience.
What it does
DermaTwin AI transforms a simple selfie into a comprehensive AI-powered skin health assessment.
The platform:
- Performs AI skin diagnostics to detect concerns such as acne, wrinkles, pores, redness, hydration, texture, oiliness, and dark circles.
- Builds a personalized Skin Digital Twin that evolves over time.
- Uses multiple autonomous AI agents to recommend skincare routines, beauty products, and personalized fashion suggestions.
- Predicts how a user's skin may change over the next 7, 30, 90, and 180 days—and even years into the future—based on habits and environmental conditions.
- Provides virtual beauty and apparel try-on experiences.
- Adapts recommendations using climate factors like UV exposure, humidity, and pollution.
- Tracks user habits to improve consistency through gamification.
- Creates tamper-proof blockchain audit records using Hedera, enabling transparent and verifiable AI recommendations while preserving user privacy.
Instead of delivering a one-time analysis, DermaTwin AI creates a continuously improving AI companion for healthier skin and smarter beauty decisions.
How we built it
We designed DermaTwin AI as a modern full-stack AI platform centered around autonomous agents.
The frontend delivers an immersive experience using HTML5, JavaScript, Three.js, WebGL, and SVG animations with live webcam capture for real-time analysis.
The backend is powered by FastAPI, Pydantic, and Uvicorn, exposing APIs that orchestrate the complete diagnostic workflow.
Our AI pipeline integrates:
- AI-powered skin analysis
- Personalized skincare recommendation engine
- Fashion and virtual try-on intelligence
- Climate-aware recommendation engine
- Habit coaching
- Shopping intelligence
- Long-term skin prediction engine
- Blockchain audit agent
Every recommendation is cryptographically hashed and anchored on Hedera Consensus Service, creating an immutable audit trail while keeping sensitive health information private.
The application is fully containerized using Docker and Docker Compose, making it easy to deploy and scale.
Challenges we ran into
Building an experience that felt truly intelligent required solving several difficult engineering challenges.
Integrating multiple AI services into a single seamless workflow demanded careful orchestration between independent agents while maintaining low latency.
Designing predictive digital twins required balancing explainability with meaningful long-term forecasting rather than simply displaying AI-generated scores.
Privacy was another major consideration. We wanted users to benefit from transparent AI decisions without exposing sensitive biometric information, leading us to implement blockchain verification using cryptographic hashes instead of storing personal data on-chain.
Creating an engaging user experience also meant combining real-time webcam capture, interactive 3D visualization, predictive dashboards, and AI recommendations into a single intuitive interface.

What we learned
Throughout this project we learned that the future of personalized healthcare isn't powered by a single AI model—it's powered by collaborative AI systems.
We also discovered the importance of explainability, privacy, and user trust. Users are more likely to adopt AI when recommendations are personalized, transparent, and verifiable.
Finally, building with modular AI agents made the platform significantly easier to extend and opened opportunities for future healthcare applications beyond dermatology.

This hackathon prototype is only the beginning.
