Inspiration
We were largely inspired by our own struggles with our skin, ranging from unhelpful dermatologist appointments to hours spent doomscrolling Google and WebMd trying to find a picture that matched with what our skin looked like. From that frustration came Derma-Lens!
What it does
Derma-Lens is an app that allows users to upload and image and answer a few questions, then recieve an answer for what the skin condition might be, as well as a brief description of the condition and some possible remedies.
How we built it
We used Expo and Colab in order to create our front-end and back-end respectively.
Challenges we ran into
Finding an adequately sized dataset with well-labelled images was a challenge, as was combining the front-end with the CNN.

Being able to make this app!
What's next for Derma-Lens
In the future, we hope to implement a more robust classification model (like a Swin Transformer) as well as use a dataset with a greater diversity in both skin tones and skin conditions in order to help an even wider population of people!
