Inspiration

While we were brainstorming ideas for the hackathon, we came across the topic of traveling and its convenience. We discussed the time and energy it takes to prepare luggage or a carry-on, keeping in mind the destination’s weather forecast, humidity, rain, etc. It’s also a long wait duration for unloading and loading your suitcase/carry-on in the airport, instead of relaxing in your seat after a long wait. One of the team members mentioned that their luggage was missing from the airport due to an internal communication error, and only got their luggage after 3 days of staying at their destination, and their trip was only a week.

What it does

Dérive offers consumers a luggage-free travel experience when they go on a trip because Dérive can provide all the necessary clothes they need. Dérive will work with clothing companies to provide the clothes, and we will ship the clothes to the staying locations. Therefore users can save a lot of money, time, and energy.

How we built it

At first, we brainstorm all the possible ideas that we come up with. After that, we create the UI of the app using Figma.

Challenges we ran into

Two major challenges we encountered were defining the store-to-hotel supply chain and finding open APIs from top apparel brands to display their items on our app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to overcome the challenges addressed earlier and the issues we were having with our messaging by bouncing thoughts off of each other and building on top of each others’ ideas. That’s how we came up with our tagline, “No hassle. Just travel.”

What we learned

We were able to gain both hard and soft skills throughout the hackathon. We learned how to work effectively when unable to meet (aka asynchronously) while still holding each other accountable and getting our work done. As for hard skills, we were able to learn a lot about how to create a functioning prototype using Figma where different elements lead to different frames, allowing for a fully fluid interface.

What's next for Dérive

We hope to develop the app itself and further validate our idea by talking to experts in the clothing and travel industries. In fact, we already have the needed skills within our team to begin building the product, and the only skills we need to acquire involve machine learning; we’ve already gotten started with learning this too by attending the Qoom workshop.
