Inspiration

We wanted to create a survival roguelike where power itself becomes a threat. Inspired by deep-sea mysteries, cosmic horror, and games like Vampire Survivors, we asked a simple question: What if every powerful upgrade pushed you closer to destruction?

What it does

Depths of Corruption is a horror survival roguelike where players control a lone pufferfish exploring a corrupted abyss. Fight endless sea horrors, collect resources, evolve powerful mutations, and manage a unique Corruption system that grants incredible power while making survival increasingly difficult.

How we built it

We designed the game around four core pillars: Fight, Gather, Evolve, and Survive. The corruption mechanic ties every system together, creating meaningful risk-versus-reward decisions. We combined colorful bioluminescent environments with dark abyssal horror to create a world that feels both beautiful and dangerous.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was balancing corruption. It needed to feel tempting enough for players to embrace while remaining dangerous enough to create tension. We also worked to keep combat readable as mutation effects, enemies, and resources filled the screen.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of creating a corruption system that influences every major decision. We're also proud of the game's distinctive visual style, combining a cute pufferfish protagonist with a terrifying underwater world.

What we learned

We learned that memorable gameplay comes from meaningful tradeoffs. The most exciting moments happen when players knowingly take risks in pursuit of greater rewards.

What's next for Depths of Corruption

Future updates could include additional abyss regions, new mutation families, more bosses, world corruption events, leaderboards, and cooperative multiplayer while preserving the core corruption-driven survival experience.
