Inspiration

We noticed that logistics managers often lack a dedicated large-screen interface for monitoring fleet movements. We wanted to leverage the power of Fire TV to create a centralized command center for delivery operations. This inspired us to bridge the gap between mobile logistics and living room displays.

What it does

DepotDynamo handles complex delivery routing algorithms and visualizes them on Amazon Fire TV. It allows users to track multi-stop updates and adjust routes in real-time. The system ensures that delivery paths are optimized for maximum efficiency across the entire network.

How we built it

We built the backend using amazon-eks to manage our scalable microservices in Python. We integrated amazon-sagemaker for machine learning models that predict route efficiency and used haystack for intelligent document retrieval. The frontend interface was developed specifically for amazon-fire-tv using logi for telemetry tracking.

Challenges we ran into

We struggled with optimizing the high-frequency data updates for the Fire TV hardware without causing lag. We also faced challenges ensuring the haystack index stayed synchronized with our EKS-based clusters. Tuning the sagemaker models for real-time routing constraints required significant iteration.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of successfully deploying a complex routing engine that runs seamlessly on Fire TV. The integration between amazon-sagemaker and our Python backend proved to be stable. Seeing the optimized routes rendered on a large screen was a major milestone for our team.

What we learned

We learned much about the constraints and opportunities of developing television-based developer tools. We also gained deep insights into how to manage containerized workloads on amazon-eks at scale. The nuances of haystack helped us understand how to handle unstructured logistics data more effectively.

What's next for DepotDynamo

We plan to add voice-activated routing adjustments using the Fire TV remote capabilities. We also want to expand our sagemaker models to include weather-aware traffic predictions. DepotDynamo will continue to evolve as a premier tool for logistics developers worldwide.
