Inspiration

The inspiration for DepositSafe came from noticing how fragile trust is in peer-to-peer marketplaces and remote services. Whether it’s buying collectibles, paying a freelancer, shipping goods, or reserving time slots, today’s platforms make it incredibly easy to move money but offer almost no protection once payment is sent. Transactions are binary: either you pay upfront and hope everything works out, or you refuse to pay and the other party won’t engage. There’s no middle ground, no assurance layer, and no mechanism for proof or refunds.

DepositSafe introduces a simple escrow layer that protects both sides. Clients can lock funds, providers can verify that payment is reserved, and release only happens when proof of delivery exists. If nothing is delivered before the deadline, the refund path is automatic. The goal is to remove the friction, distrust, and “just trust me” culture that underpins so many online transactions today.

What it does

DepositSafe lets users deposit USD, convert it to RLUSD, lock funds into escrow, and release or refund payments based on proof of work and deadlines. It protects both clients and service providers from scams, ghosting, and non-delivery.

How we built it

We built a full-stack web platform with XRPL-based escrow logic, RLUSD settlement, and a dashboard for deposits, withdrawals, payments, refunds, and proof submission.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating blockchain escrow with traditional payment flows, designing a fair refund logic, handling state transitions, and simulating the UX of real financial rails without actual settlement friction.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Building a working end-to-end escrow system, enabling conditional payments, implementing proof-based release, and creating a smooth UI that makes blockchain feel familiar and safe.

What we learned

Trust is often the missing piece in online transactions, and escrow can be made simple and intuitive when paired with stable settlement and clear workflows.

What's next for Deposit Safe

Add milestone-based payments, third-party arbitration, expanded settlement rails, marketplace integrations, and production-grade RLUSD support.
