Dental offices spend valuable time manually calling patients to confirm appointments. Missed confirmations can lead to forgotten appointments, no-shows, wasted staff time, and empty appointment slots.

DentalConfirm is an AI-powered appointment confirmation system designed to automate this process using CALL-E AI phone agents.

💡 The idea

Instead of asking dental staff to call patients one by one, DentalConfirm lets the office manage patients and appointments in one place and initiate an automated confirmation call.

The workflow is simple:

1. Create or manage an appointment.
2. Select the patient.
3. Start the confirmation process.
4. DentalConfirm prepares a personalized confirmation call.
5. The application invokes CALL-E to handle the phone-agent workflow.
6. The call result can be used to manage the appointment confirmation process.

The goal is to turn a repetitive administrative task into an automated workflow so dental staff can spend more time on patients rather than manually making confirmation calls.

🤖 Why CALL-E?

CALL-E is the core phone-agent technology behind the calling workflow.

DentalConfirm does not simply display a simulated phone call. The application integrates CALL-E into the runtime flow to initiate the AI phone-agent process.

The project was built specifically to explore how AI phone agents can be applied to a practical healthcare-administration task.

🛠️ How we built it

DentalConfirm combines a web application interface for managing patients and appointments with a CALL-E-powered phone-agent workflow.

The interface provides:

• Patient management
• Appointment management
• Appointment confirmation workflow
• Call initiation
• Call status visualization
• Call history / results workflow

The application was designed around a simple principle: make automated appointment confirmation understandable and easy for a dental office to use.

🎓 What we learned

Building DentalConfirm gave us a practical understanding of how AI phone agents can be integrated into an application rather than treated as a standalone chatbot.

We learned how important the workflow around an AI call is: preparing the correct patient context, initiating the call, communicating its status to the user, and handling the result.

We also learned that real-world AI applications have infrastructure and geographic constraints that need to be communicated transparently to users.

🚧 Challenge: phone availability in Italy

During development and testing, we encountered a limitation with live outbound phone calls to Italian numbers: Italy is currently unsupported for phone calls by CALL-E.

Because of this geographic limitation, our demo shows the complete DentalConfirm calling workflow up to the CALL-E calling stage rather than pretending that a live call to an Italian number was successfully completed.

We chose to document this limitation transparently rather than fabricate a successful call.

🌍 What's next?

DentalConfirm could be extended with:

• Automatic scheduled confirmation calls
• Multiple reminder attempts
• Confirmation, cancellation, and rescheduling flows
• Calendar integration
• Multilingual patient conversations
• Automatic handling of call outcomes
• Analytics for no-shows and confirmation rates

The larger vision is to make routine appointment communication autonomous while keeping the dental staff in control.

DentalConfirm demonstrates how CALL-E can turn a repetitive real-world phone task into an AI-powered workflow.
