Inspiration

We often forget where we've been—not just physically, but emotionally as well. The idea for LifeLine was born from a desire to make visible the subtle traces life leaves behind. Every step we take, every place we visit, every photo we capture, and every feeling we experience—these are all fragments that shape who we are. LifeLine brings those fragments together, creating a digital companion that lets you reconnect with your past, even years into the future.

What It Does

LifeLine regularly checks your location and automatically detects when you've moved to a new place. It then logs this data and visualizes it in a chronological timeline. On the main screen, you can swipe left or right to navigate through different days. By tapping on any day, you can view the places you visited and attach personal photos or notes to each location.

One of its most powerful features is the AI-powered chat module. It allows you to talk about past places, relive memories, and ask reflective questions like, “Where was I last summer?” LifeLine gradually becomes a personal memory bank that you can interact with.

Business Model and Monetization

Whenever you arrive at a new location, LifeLine sends a push notification asking you to confirm your presence within 5 minutes. This creates a small challenge and serves as a motivation mechanism to keep users engaged with the app. If users fail to confirm a new location in time, they can still manually add it—but only with a paid plan. This structure encourages consistent usage while offering monetization potential.

How We Built It

The project was primarily built using Bolt.new, leveraging its rapid prototyping and deployment features to create a fully integrated front-end and back-end structure.

  • Location data is collected at regular intervals and meaningful stops are identified and stored using Supabase.
  • A custom horizontally scrollable timeline UI was developed for daily navigation.
  • A dynamic notification system was implemented based on real-time location detection.
  • The AI chat feature is powered by a language model capable of referencing personal memory data.
  • Past locations, photos, and notes are seamlessly used within the AI chat interface.

Challenges We Faced

  • Building a dynamic and interactive timeline UI on Bolt.new required constructing custom components outside of the default framework. Thanks to Bolt’s ability, I were able to achieve this with some effort.
  • Displaying location data in a clean and intuitive way posed more of a design challenge than a technical one.
  • The biggest conceptual challenge was to integrate an AI that could feel like a memory narrator—without crossing the boundaries of personal privacy. The idea of a "digital memory" required deep thinking around data ethics, consent, and user trust.

Accomplishments We're Proud Of

  • We created a timeline interface that is both functional and emotionally resonant with our vision.
  • Our background location tracking system is energy-efficient and stable.
  • AI-driven conversations about your own past work naturally and meaningfully, providing a unique emotional and technical experience.
  • Most importantly, we believe LifeLine is more than just a tool—it’s a meaningful product that connects deeply with its users.

What We Learned

We learned the capabilities and limitations of the Bolt.new platform in depth.
We gained practical experience in managing location data, optimizing AI performance, and balancing front-end responsiveness with back-end logic.
We also explored the ethical aspects of designing with personal data, learned the value of user agency, and embraced empathetic product development as a core principle.

What's Next for LifeLine

  • We plan to add location clustering and a "daily routine map" to give more insights.
  • Our notification system will evolve to include memory-based alerts and reminders.
  • The AI will become more personalized, allowing queries like “Where did I spend my birthday last year?” with visual and contextual answers.
  • Long term, we envision LifeLine as a digital life companion—automatically co-writing your autobiography as you live it. We'll also explore physical products (memory journals, albums) that integrate with the app.
  • Our ultimate mission is to enable those who opt in to share their digital archives with the world, contributing to a generational digital memory bank—preserving everyday human history for centuries to come.
