Inspiration
The inspiration behind Demoji (Demographics + Emoji) comes from our group's interest in working with sentimental analysis and putting a twist on it by using emojis and certain demographic info.
What it does
Demoji is a mobile app that allow individuals to submit reactions to photos from a static photo feed. Demoji users initially submit demographic information such as gender, race, income, etc. and are presented with a photo feed. The feed may include Donal Trump photos, concealed-carry propaganda, etc. and Demoji users can choose a photo to react too. The following reactions are currently supported:
- Happiness
- Sadness
- Annoyed
- Laughing
- Joy
- Anger
After submitting a reaction(s), Demoji users can then view the reactions that others submitted - what makes Demoji unique is that the app is completely anonymous and users can view reactions based on the same demographics they initially submitted. For example, I can compare and contrast how people who make less than $50,000/year feel about Donald Trump with people who make more than $100,000/year.
How I built it
Santos - Android Rafa - Android Frederick - Backend/DB Josh - Backend/DB
Challenges I ran into
Santos - using a 3rd party Android Spinner that went along with the Google Material Design standards...I was unable to retrieve spinner values so I went back to the native Android Spinner
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Santos - Fixing conflicts and merging my Android code with Rafa's...nothing major broke and our pieces fit
What I learned

What's next for Demoji
- Better UI
- Bigger, better emojis
- VC funding
