VR Museum: Bridging Cultures through Innovation

Inspiration

The release of Apple VisionPro and the exploration of the VR space sparked our inspiration to delve into Black culture preservation. Merging technology with the theme of cultural heritage, we aimed to create an immersive experience similar to a museum but with a fresh, engaging approach. Our goal was to break away from the conventional and mundane, providing a captivating means for people worldwide to connect with and comprehend the depth of their rich cultural legacy. Recognizing the global dispersion of the Black community, we envisioned a technology-enabled solution without boundaries or seas to cross.

What it does

The VR Museum is an innovative platform designed to offer an immersive exploration of Black culture, history, and heritage through Meta Quest 2 VR. Users can navigate a virtual space filled with captivating exhibits, interactive artifacts, and educational content. This approach goes beyond traditional museum, providing an wholesome experience for individuals scattered across the world to connect with their cultural roots.

How we built it

Our team harnessed the power of Unity to bring the VR Museum to life. Leveraging the versatile capabilities of this development platform, we seamlessly integrated the immersive VR experience. Unity's robust features allowed us to create a visually stunning and interactive environment, ensuring a captivating journey through the exhibits. The flexibility and scalability of Unity played a crucial role in adapting traditional museum elements into a dynamic virtual space, contributing to the success of the project.

Challenges we ran into

Environment setup and understanding Unity for the first time presented a significant initial hurdle.
Sourcing authentic 3D models from museums demanded extensive research and curation efforts.
Achieving integration from Unity IDE to VR required iterative testing and troubleshooting.
Time constraints, given our exploration into unknown territories, needed prioritization and adaptability.
