Problem statement : With Singapore’s aging population, dementia has become an increasingly pressing issue, affecting 1 in 11 people. As dementia patients are prone to wandering, becoming disoriented, or facing danger; this creates challenges for families and caregivers. Ensuring the safety of their loved ones while managing the emotional and logistical demands of care can be overwhelming. Existing solutions, such as basic tracking devices, often lack accessibility and simplicity in two-way communication, as it gets overwhelming for the patient to use. This is the main issue that DemBrace aims to tackle.
Target audience: Our primary users are dementia patients and their care givers. citizens of Singapore. 1 in 10 of them have dementia.
Solution: DemBrace is a pair of simple and fit to purpose bracelets designed to enhance the safety and well-being of dementia patients while supporting their caregivers. One bracelet is worn by the patient, and the other by the caregiver. If the patient is lost or in danger, he/she or a passerby who notices them can press the communicate button on their bracelet. Doing so will instantly trigger a vibration and light signal on the caregiver’s bracelet while also sending in the patient's live location for easier navigation. Similarly, the caregiver also has the option of pressing the button on their own bracelet to check up on their patient. This also lights up and vibrates the patient's bracelet, acting as a confirmation signal that their message was received. A response by clicking the bracelets ensures peace of mind by conveying a message of the patient being 'okay'. Designed with simplicity and empathy, DemBrace provides an accessible and effective solution for families navigating the challenges of dementia care.
