About the Project

Demand Genie is a demand-planning workspace for manufacturing planners who need to make good decisions before a shortage, excess inventory, or missed production target makes the decision for them.

It turns messy historical demand into a clear view of patterns, forecast accuracy, bias, and risk. Planners can compare forecasting models and see not just what demand may do next, but how much confidence to place in that forecast. The result is better material planning, purchasing, staffing, capacity preparation, and supplier coordination.

Inspiration

Supply-chain planners operate in a world where every decision matters and the information is rarely as reliable as we would like.

They deal with the bullwhip effect, last-minute changes, incomplete ERP data, and sales forecasts that sometimes become more optimistic each time they pass through a meeting. In S&OP discussions, the forecast can become a negotiation rather than a fact. When demand is wrong, materials are missing, or inventory is too high, the planner is often expected to explain why. When production runs smoothly, it can look like nothing happened at all.

The tools do not always help. Many ERP systems hold plenty of data but make it difficult to find the signal. Planners are left stitching together exports, spreadsheets, and manual reports while trying to make high-stakes decisions at speed.

Demand Genie exists to give planners a stronger seat at the table. It makes demand behavior visible, tests forecasting approaches honestly, and exposes bias and uncertainty before they turn into operational problems. It is not a black-box crystal ball. It is a practical decision-support tool for the people who keep factories moving when everything around them is changing.

Correct demand planning is serious business. For many products and companies, the difference between the right forecast and the wrong one can mean reliable service and healthy inventory, or missed revenue, emergency freight, excess stock, and damaged customer trust.

## Democratizing Data and Code

Demand Genie is also about giving planners more control over the tools they rely on every day.

For too long, supply-chain teams have had to wait for ERP providers, external consultants, or long implementation projects to fix an urgent reporting or planning gap. The result is often another spreadsheet, another manual workaround, or a feature request that takes months to become useful.

AI changes that equation. With the right data, domain knowledge, and modern coding tools, planners and supply-chain professionals can now build focused tools for their own real-world problems much faster. They do not need to become full-time software engineers to improve a forecasting workflow, create a clearer dashboard, or test a new planning idea.

Demand Genie demonstrates what that can look like: professional, practical, and sustainable tools built close to the people who understand the operational problem best. It is an argument for the democratization of data and code, so supply-chain teams can move beyond the limits of broken or slow-moving ERP systems and build the decision-support tools they actually need.
