Inspiration

All of our group mates have had experiences when we were study dense texts that feel distant and unenjoyable. Given Chat GPT's capability to generate comprehensive language, we wanted to integrate this technology into our product. If collegiate students struggle to navigate education with existing resources, it can only be worse for younger generations, so we want to target these audiences.

What it does

Delve provides students with a cross-platform extension and application that generates personalized summaries and study questions when text is highlighted.

How we built it

The backend of our product relies on the Open AI API (we also experimented with the Hugging Face state of the art transformer models) to summarize a given text taking into account the (1) user’s age and (2) personal interests/hobbies, and generate relevant exam questions.

Students interact with our product through a Google Chrome extension and website. Both comprising the front-end are designed on HTML/CSS and JavaScript.

Challenges we ran into

The EdTech space is saturated with similar ideas and low impact solutions. To further Chat GPT's existing use, we struggled to identify a specific group of people in which language models could offer the most value.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

After 5 hours of ideation, our group of proud to have created 3+ features for our cross-platform extension and 4+ user personas. We were able to create a solution for students in the U.S. like us who struggle to break down dense information in academic settings.

What we learned

Education technology and language models have revolutionized the way we learn and communicate. They can help personalize learning and communication experiences. These technologies can analyze data to determine a person's strengths and weaknesses, and then tailor content and feedback to their specific needs.

What's next for Delve

We plan to expand features on the website. Currently, we have ideated a user flow where students can receive summaries/exam questions on the extension and can subsequently save these to specific folders (based on subject, for instance). We plan to implement features where, based off a collection of these summaries, we create full practice tests and question banks that students can make use of. We envision Delve becoming the go-to solution for students and teachers alike.
