Inspiration
Our idea of creating delulu solulu emerged from the increasingly digital nature of our interactions. From online interviews to virtual classrooms, people often feel nervous or disconnected in these environments. Coupled with the humorous notion of lighthearted escapism, our solution was born as a playful yet imaginative way to transform ordinary virtual experiences into something fun, comforting, and endearing. It’s a reflection of how technology can bring joy and creativity to otherwise stressful or mundane moments.
What it does
delulu solulu utilises filters and overlays to incorporate a layer of romantic charm to any video call. Whether it’s an online interview or a class discussion, the filter playfully reinterprets spoken words into romantic or flirtatious phrases. By doing so, it helps users relax, feel more confident, and experience a touch of warmth and humour in their virtual interactions.
How we built it
The project was developed using PyQt5 for creating a responsive and transparent overlay window, paired with advanced face detection algorithms to identify facial features in real time. A blush filter was crafted and dynamically applied to the detected cheeks, ensuring seamless integration with live video calls. The logic for turning dialogue into romantic text involved a simple speech recognition layer that transforms spoken words into affectionate phrases, creating a playful yet believable dating sim effect.
Challenges we ran into
- capturing long sentences of speech (for conversion to romantic dialogue)
- working around recording the audio from the computer instead of the computer's microphone
- the positioning, resizing and coordination of buttons
What we are proud of
*our first hackathon! During the development of our idea, we honed a range of technical and creative skills that brought our vision to life. We learned to utilise PyQt5 to build a user-friendly interface, applying object-oriented programming (OOP) concepts such as classes to create a modular and efficient design. Our efforts also included resizing components to ensure a responsive and adaptable layout. In terms of UI/UX development, we crafted an intuitive window with interactive buttons linked to core functions, enhancing usability while attempting to implement a playful face recognition filter to elevate the user experience. To expand functionality, we integrated the Gemini API as a romantic speech translator and generated custom APIs to facilitate seamless system communication. Although the face filter did not turn out the way we anticipated, the process enabled us to gain valuable insights into real-time face detection, overlay integration, and learning how to troubleshoot complex issues.
What's next for delulu solulu
We are definitely looking forward to the prospect of working on similar projects in the future. As this was our very first hackathon, it marks the beginning of an exciting journey filled with countless opportunities that lie ahead. The challenges and experiences we've encountered have only fueled our enthusiasm for what's to come. Looking ahead, we aim to refine the aesthetics of delulu solulu to enhancing use experience.
