Deliney is a household budget app I built for myself. Flutter on Android and web, Python on AWS.
Inspiration
I like doing my budget. Not as a chore — I want to see where the money goes. I started with spreadsheets, then moved to apps. They were good enough. Then I noticed I had started keeping a spreadsheet again, on the side, next to the app. That meant something was missing. So I built the app I was missing.
What it does
Items inside one transaction. A supermarket trip isn’t only groceries. It’s sweets, household supplies, sometimes alcohol. Some apps let me split it — but then I had five transactions instead of one, when it was one purchase, in one shop, at one moment. In Deliney a transaction is a list of items, and each item has its own category.
Receipt scanning. Typing a receipt in by hand is slow, and I would have stopped doing it within a week. In Deliney I photograph the receipt. The AI reads it and prepares the transaction with every item, each already assigned a category.
Unplanned spending. You can’t plan a month with 100% accuracy. Something always comes up. No app I used let me budget for that. I wanted a buffer I could spend on anything. Deliney lets me set a target per category and keeps one flexible line for everything else.
Web and sync. I spend my day at a laptop. I don’t want to pick up my phone to do my budget. Everything in the mobile app is in the browser too, on the same data.
Labels. Coming back from a trip, I want to know what it cost. In other apps I had to invent a category for it. Deliney has labels: any transaction can carry one (“Paris 2026”), and Analytics filtered by that label shows the whole trip broken down by category.
I use it every day now, and the spreadsheet is gone.
How I built it
Flutter with clean architecture and BLoC, against Python Lambdas, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3 and Cognito — one Terraform module per environment. Gemini Flash reads the receipts. The local cache is Drift over SQLite and analytics run on the device, so they keep working offline and cost nothing to serve.
What’s next for Deliney
Importing transactions from other apps, so I keep the history I built there. Sharing my data with my partner, so we see the family’s finances together. Configurable widgets on the home screen.
