Inspiration
The decentralized Library is a project that belongs to the United Nations Sustainable Goals Track (Quality Education) born to help increase knowledge. An articles by Saoirse Mullan (2020) posited the decline of reading from students due to technology. Students are no longer using the library as it was in the past.
What it does
This project aims at using the same technology (web3) to bring the reading culture back to the students. The dapp incentivizes students to read books and watch video books from their discipline. They prove they have learnt by taking a brief quiz and when they perform well, they get an NFT that can be traded for money.
How we built it
This project seeks to help students or users learn through e-books, video books, and Live streaming learning. The backend was developed with Solidity, the front-end was designed with Next.js. IPFS was used to store contents for the decentralized Library (pdf files for ebook and mp4 for video books), Livepeer was integrated for streaming live lectures and tutorials, NFTPorts was used to mint customized DLIB NFT to students who perform excellently well.
Challenges we ran into
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This implementation is a use case of NFT (ERC721) in solving educational needs. As we know that Education is one of the Millennium Development Goals as well as the United Nations Sustainable Goals. This is a novel area of NFT implementation other than NFT marketplaces, gaming and metaverse.
What we learned
The team learned a lot. The team was thrilled that they could use the NFT to create a novel solution for mankind using the web3 space. The team learnt that pushing oneself beyond their limit can birth new innovations. Hard work pays.
What's next for Delibrary
Delibrary will gradually introduce premium books and videos that users will pay (in Metis token) to access. Users can also upload books and videos and make passive income from their subscriptions. When the subscription base increases, educational "content-based" adverts can be added to the videos just as we see on youtube.
