Inspiration
We realized that much food goes to waste simply because people don't know how to use everyday groceries. So, we created an easy-to-use app that offers countless ways to make the most of your ingredients.
What it does
Our app helps you reduce food waste by suggesting recipes based on the ingredients in your grocery bill. Simply upload a picture of your receipt, and discover new ways to use what you already have.
How we built it
We built the backend using Flask and the frontend with Next.js. Our app integrates several powerful APIs, including Cohere AI for natural language processing, and Spoonacular for recipe suggestions.
Challenges we ran into
We encountered difficulties in getting the backend and frontend to communicate seamlessly and struggled with complex API documentation, which delayed integration. However, through persistence and support from DeltaHack's mentors, we overcame these obstacles.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of overcoming numerous setbacks and building a fully working tech and API stack. Our persistence paid off, and we now have a seamless, functional system that drives our app.
What we learned
We learned how to connect the backend and frontend through API calls, integrate multiple APIs, and apply web scraping techniques to gather and process data efficiently for our app.
What's next for Deli Belly
Next, we plan to add an authentication system for account management, community forums for user engagement, and diet tracking features. With AI, we aim to provide personalized feedback and suggestions based on users’ dietary needs.
