Inspiration

I am the problem DefrayMe solves.

By day, I run operations for an event company. By night, I walk runways. Two contracts, two statuses, two sets of rules, and every month, one very painful spreadsheet. I lose receipts. I forget what I can claim. I spend hours decoding French tax law that changes depending on whether I'm an employee, a freelancer, or a model. My filmmaker partner does the same. So does every artist, freelancer, and multi-status worker in Paris. There are 4 million of us. And that number is about to explode. Everyone fears that AI will replace their job. Maybe. But what I see coming is different : a generation of people who combine jobs, stack identities, and build plural careers because the tools now make it possible. The multi-status worker isn't a casualty of this shift. They're its product. We don't need an accountant. We need a system that understands that modern work doesn't fit into a single box and that the reimbursement nightmare shouldn't be the price we pay for freedom. DefrayMe is that system: one wallet, one dashboard, one source of truth. Built for people who wear more than one hat.

What it does

DefrayMe is an expense tracker built specifically for the French multi-status workforce. You select your professional status (or statuses because many of us have more than one), and the app tells you exactly what you can legally claim back based on 2026 French tax rules.

Key features:

  • 10 French professional statuses Salarié, Auto-entrepreneur, Freelance EURL/SASU, Intermittent du spectacle, Artiste-auteur, Mannequin, Profession libérale, Portage salarial, Commerçant/Artisan, Multi-statuts
  • Smart categorization each expense tagged as deductible or not based on your profile
  • Optimization alerts proactive warnings when you could save money (e.g. switching from Auto-entrepreneur to EURL/SASU)
  • Receipt upload scan and categorize in seconds
  • PDF export generate a clean expense report with optimization tips

How I built it

I built DefrayMe entirely using MeDo through natural language conversations
no prior coding experience. I described the problem, iterated on the features, and debugged issues step by step. MeDo generated the full-stack application including the French tax logic, the dark cyberpunk fintech UI, and the PDF export system.

Challenges I ran into

The hardest part was getting the French tax rules right. Auto-entrepreneurs cannot deduct real expenses they get a flat abatement of 34-71%. Employees can switch to frais réels. Each status has different rules, different ceilings, different justification requirements. I researched each one and translated that complexity into simple UX.

What I learned

I learned that vibe coding is not about shortcuts, it's about knowing your problem deeply enough to describe it precisely. My ops background was my biggest technical asset. I also learned the difference between an API and a standalone function the hard way (jspdf-autotable bug — fixed in V8).
