Yield For Change

Overview of the website!

Inspiration

After seeing the increasing amounts of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere, we wanted to help combat climate change! We figured we could put our knowledge of cryptocurrency to use.

What it does

Yield for change allows you to lend out your otherwise dormant cryptocurrency risk free, which allows it to generate interest. This interest is donated to charities that fight carbon emissions, with no loss to you!

How we built it

We built a simple platform that interacts with smart contracts built from scratch (currently deployed on the kovan testnet). The front end is built with react.js and the smart contracts are written in solidity.

Challenges we ran into

Once we got our website up and running, we had to allow it to interact with our backend (which is on the blockchain). This turned out to be much more difficult that we anticipated as it took us several hours to link the website to the smart contracts.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully deploying smart contracts to the kovan testnet blockchain.

What we learned

We learned much more about how react.js works and especially how to link it with smart contracts.

What's next for Yield For Change

There are a LOT of goals we have for the future. • Deploy our smart contracts on polygon (a carbon neutral blockchain) • Enable more incentives for people to hold $ECO • Create live updating statistics for how much is donated and more.
