Inspiration
Back when i-pads were new, I would play a four player tower defense game with my kids, where we had to work together to take down UFOs trying to reach earth. This game seeks to recreate that experience. Once multiplayer is added, game mechanics will encourage working together.
What it does
After picking a level design, enemies will spawn at the top of the screen and wind their way down to the bottom. Placed towers will attempt to destroy the enemies.
How we built it
It started with concepting the interface and creating the graphics and models. After that, playtesting until gameplay felt right.
Challenges we ran into
Getting the UFOs to move right was tricky, as well as setting up proper interactions between enemies, turrets, and the world.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Learning Noesis and getting it integrated with Worlds Desktop Editor and typescript code.
What we learned
Noeseis was new to us, so that was a learning curve to overcome, as well as how to work with it in the Desktop Editor. Also, getting several entities to interact like this was a new experience.
What's next for Defend the Earth
More tower choices, included utility towers which stun and slow enemies or earn passive income, long range and rapid fire towers, and towers that buff or de-buff targets. Also, multiplayer mode where teamwork can start to factor in, difficulty settings, and XP that carries with you to the next round to create continuity and unlock new challenges.
