What is Pikitup?

Pikitup is a solution for everyone to start recycling reusable scraps. Starting from our home!

We encourage everyone to start recycling their unused scraps (preferably reusable ones). And reuse the scraps to fuel production process of manufacturers with the needs of reusable scraps.

Pikitup is a web-based app, anyone can access it at anytime, anywhere, and with any device.

What it does

Pikitup enables everyone to recycle unused waste at home, without any hassle.

Users can order a "driver" to pick and collect their waste at the doorstep. The reusable waste will be exchanged with in-app coins which can be used to buy interesting items available in the web-app.

Inspiration

Waste problem in Indonesia is still questionable. Indonesia generates over 7.8 million tons of plastic waste each year, 1.8 million tons of electronic waste, with other and new waste to come. The problem keeps getting worse with the growing use of technology and industrial sites.

Despite the negative effect it come with, untreated reusable waste and scraps bring a lot of potential for manufacturers to use as a source of production materials. However, this potential is still being wasted. Mainly because there's not enough supplier to cover the amount of required materials needed in order to produce new products. Therefore, new suppliers are much needed in the scrap market

Finding suppliers can be difficult, especially in times like these when the demand of reusable scraps is much higher than the available supplies. Thus, the use of reusable production materials is redundant and the concept of recycling will be left behind. To make things worse, people are abandoning 3R concept (that is to reuse, reduce, and recycle) because recycling can be a big hassle for everyone living far from a recycling center.

So, Pikitup is here to cease said problems by providing access for everyone to start recycling our waste from our home.

How we built it

We make it using bootstrap and flask. we coded together in replit and helped each other to solve it. Other members of our team are also there to help create presentations, logos, banners, and so on. We were able to get it done because we worked together and we are proud of that!

Challenges we ran into

Brainstorming is the most difficult part as we were required to think of a unique idea but also feasible enough that we can possibly implement the idea into a real working product. We often stuck at deciding which idea to use since we have several other ideas at hand. However, we managed to surpass all the challenges we encountered!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

With the small gap between the start of the event and the deadline, we're proud to be able to finish the project in time. All thanks to our team, especially the programmers behind the Pikitup web-app!

What's next for Pikitup

We believe that it is possible for Pikitup to be released in real life as a successful start-up company. We have also learned a ton of valuable lessons from the guest speakers and workshops. We'll keep inventing new ways to make Indonesia a better place for everyone!
