Read smarter, not harder. DeepReadr helps you deeply understand articles and documents with AI-powered summaries, analysis, and insight - all in one click.

Story

We live in an age of information overload, yet truly understanding texts has become more difficult than ever before. DeepReadr changes that. It's your personal reading companion. Simply paste any text to receive instant AI-generated summaries, smart quizzes, comprehension questions, and a guided reading plan. It's like having a tutor available 24/7. With the help of a KI Coder, I was able to skip the manual backend work and focus on crafting smart AI prompts, a polished user experience (UX), and an intuitive flow. The AI handled integrations and the dynamic quiz engine, allowing me to fine-tune the reader’s journey. DeepReadr helps everyone - students, lifelong learners, and busy professionals - read better and remember more.

Inspiration

Too often we skim information and miss the depth. I wanted a tool that helps people understand rather than just summarize. DeepReadr was created to surface nuance, detect bias, and support deeper comprehension through AI.

What it does

Users paste or upload text, and DeepReadr provides structured analysis: key takeaways, contextual background, bias detection, and reflection prompts - turning dense text into meaningful insight.

How we built it

We built DeepReadr using Next.js, Supabase, OpenRouter API, Tailwind CSS, and Markdown rendering. The frontend is minimal and fast, focused on clarity. AI prompts are designed to offer structured outputs for reading comprehension and self-reflection. DeepReadr is designed as a lightweight serverless MVP to highlight its real-time AI analysis. All examples are processed live, with sample texts illustrating the full experience. A future Supabase backend will power personalized reading history, user libraries, and deeper learning progress tracking.

Challenges we ran into

Ensuring the AI didn’t just summarize but actually offered analysis and reflection took several rounds of prompt refinement. UX-wise, we also had to balance simplicity with feature depth.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a lightweight tool that transforms passive reading into active understanding. Users can instantly unlock depth in any article or essay, without cognitive overload.

What we learned

We deepened our understanding of cognitive ergonomics, reading behaviors, and prompt modularity. AI can truly become a learning companion if used right.

What's next for DeepReadr

We’re planning browser extensions, PDF uploads, study modes, and a personal reading archive with AI-enhanced recall and connection between texts.
