Elevator Pitch
This project transforms the MX Creative Console into a native, context-aware control surface for Blender, built around Blender’s own interaction model instead of keyboard emulation.
At the core of the system, Blender’s native pie menus are mapped directly to the Action Ring, enabling fast, spatial interaction with tools that artists already understand. There is no abstraction layer or custom UI to learn—the hardware adapts itself to Blender.
How It Works
Action Ring = Blender Pie Menus
- Blender’s existing pie menus are exposed as an Action Ring
- Direct interaction with Blender tools, not shortcut remapping
- The Action Ring updates automatically as context changes
The Action Ring auto-remaps in real time when:
- The active mode changes
- The active tool changes
- The selection type changes (vertex / edge / face)
Only valid actions are shown, and impossible actions are disabled to prevent errors.
Creative Console as a Native Control Layer
The Creative Console is used as a true input surface, not a keyboard or numpad emulator.
- Numeric input behaves like a native numpad
- Recently used modifiers are surfaced automatically
- Invalid actions are visually greyed out
Mode-Aware Tooling
Sculpt Mode
- Brush selection based on most-used brushes
- Mask tools available directly on the console
- Fast access without breaking sculpt flow
Edit Mode
Context-sensitive geometry tools:
- Extrude
- Bevel
- Loop Cut
- Inset
- Merge
- Split
- Knife
- Recalculate Normals
Tools adapt automatically based on vertex, edge, or face selection.
Object Mode
Object-level operations appear instantly:
- Duplicate
- Parent
- Join
- Add elements (mesh, light, camera, etc.)
Modifier Workflow
Frequently used modifiers are always within reach:
- Subdivision Surface
- Mirror
Modifiers can be added, toggled, or adjusted without opening modifier panels.
Tactile Precision with the Dial
The console dial provides analog control over any draggable value in Blender:
- Adjust numeric parameters with precision
- Rotate objects smoothly
- Scroll and zoom:
- Timeline
- Viewport
- Editors
- Panels
Anything draggable becomes physically controllable.
Global Search
- Trigger a global Blender search from the Action Ring
- Search tools, modifiers, and commands
- Results are filtered by current mode and context
Why This Matters
This integration removes the need to memorize shortcuts, reduces cognitive load, and prevents invalid actions before they happen. By aligning hardware behavior with Blender’s native logic, artists stay focused on creation instead of interface management—resulting in a faster, safer, and more intuitive workflow.
