Inspiration

Five Nights at Freddy's is one of our inspirations due to its horror element and their menu aesthetic. Another inspiration includes Iron Lung because the idea of being in a submarine and having to navigate the depths and unknown waters is an intriguing element.

What it does

Our game brings the user into the story of Uncle Romo and Cyndi. The user plays as Cyndi, who lost her father to the depths, while her Uncle Romo survived. Cyndi is now going back to the depths to pay for her Uncle Romo's treatment because he was stricken with an unknown illness after being deep in the depths with her father. As the user plays as Cyndi you must collect treasure to gain currency, survive by avoiding fish and keeping track of your energy, and extract safely in order to purchase upgrades and tools.

How we built it

We built it using Python and Pygame along with Pillow to support our animating menu screen. We created all of the designs for every asset inside the game from start to finish. There are different layers to our frames which avoid hard-coded images and allow for a more dynamic style of gameplay.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into design challenges and game functionality conflicts. We realized the game was overtuned and had to be balanced properly. We ran into fish behavior issues where fish were not behaving correctly based on depth level.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We incorporated music and a sense of story to involve the user with the game. Created, tested, and designed every asset involved in the game. Game balancing, functionality and design for aspects of the enemies.

What we learned

We learned how to work together, distribute work properly, and design many parts of an asset folder together. We learned how to properly balance and tune the game in order to not feel overly easing or overwhelmingly hard.
