Inspiration

The state of Texas set a goal that 60% of Texas residents matriculate to college. However, there hasn't been much analysis on what factors impact college matriculation and what things we can do to increase or decrease college matriculation in the state of Texas.

What it does

This analysis measures what factors seem to correlate with college matriculation. From this, we also ranked schools that over-performed and under-performed when it comes to college matriculation.

How we built it

To preprocess the data, I used Python and Pandas. To run the regression analysis and visualizations, I used R, Markdown, and GLM module.

Challenges we ran into

The big challenge is that unfortunately the report does not include students who matriculated to college outside of the state of Texas, which would be roughly 15% of all college matriculants. This seemed to penalize schools that had high marks but had lower matriculation rates due to them going out of state.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of my analysis because the outputs from the regression seem to coincide with the literature.

What we learned

What's next for Deep Analysis to College Matriculation in the State of Texas

Build an API where user supplies information on a student and we determine whether they are at risk of not matriculating to college. Creating a rating system that rates high schools based on how well they send kids to college.
