Inspiration
Seeing how insurance prices were climbing with little explanation, and how confusing the system is even for well-informed adults, we wanted to build something that simplifies insurance for everyone, not just experts.
What it does
Over the past two decades, house insurance prices have surged by over 74% after adjusting for inflation. A 2024 Harvard study talks about this sharp increase, and the real percentage could be even higher. And it’s not just home insurance prices for auto, health, and other insurances have also risen dramatically. This trend leaves many Canadians asking, “Why did my car insurance go up for no reason?” Worse still, millions of Canadians have little to no health insurance coverage, often due to cost .
The Solution: Deducto Our platform is a response to skyrocketing insurance costs. It’s a platform that:
Compares your current insurance plan with online alternatives
Analyzes your policy to identify areas of overpayment or undercoverage
Simplifies complicated insurance jargon into plain, human language
How we built it
We built Deducto using React with a Node.js backend. We also integrated Framer Motion to bring a clean, animated user experience to life.
Challenges we ran into
Our team started with minimal experience in React, so learning how to structure the app and pass data effectively was a major hurdle.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Building a working React app from scratch
- Making insurance info truly digestible for non-experts
- Creating a clean, user-friendly interface with real-time comparisons
What we learned
We got hands-on experience with react and framer motion and learned a lot of things
What's next for Deducto
In the future we would like to add stock analysis and financial comparison tools, user profiles.
Built With
- framer
- react
