Inspiration
It was an idea I had while talking to a few buddies from Rutgers for an idea for a hackathon to make something good for the world. And because of current news especially in the United States we thought of making a platform that people can come together to find common ground and maybe learn something new in the process. Hopefully making the world more understanding. This is a huge world but maybe my small project can help a few people.
What it does
This website takes a user's field input's and then pairs them up with someone who want's to discuss the same issue but has an opposing opinion on that issue, and it put's them in a chat room together where they can communicate their ideas.
How I built it
I used a simple Bootstrap Template for the front end and then used mostly PHP to create the backend and using html log files to store the chat temporarily and then wiping the html file after the chat is ended.
Challenges I ran into
I'm a Front End Developer, so I had no clue how to operate the backend, it was very tricky but I got it to work on a low scale.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
This project itself, and that I was able to get it working on a live site.
What I learned
I learned a lot about PHP and how it interacts with Javascript. Also about deploying to Heroku and how that operates.
