Inspiration

Reading Marie Kondos book, trying to declutter and follow her advice to get rid of all things that don't "Spark Joy". But once I identified the items I wanted to perhaps remove and sell, they just lay there in the house. Because the process of having to create lists and ads for each of those ridiculous items DID NOT spark joy! Enter the idea of AI to assist me in this endeavor!

What it does

Declutter Genie allows users to upload photos or enter descriptions of items they want to sell. It uses AI to identify items, suggest prices based on market trends, and estimate item conditions. Users can edit the list, adjust prices and conditions, and then generate a polished advertisement ready to post on resale platforms like Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace—all in one seamless session.

How we built it

This is a submission for the one shot challenge. The first prompt had instructions for Bolt to create the app including aesthetics, tech stack and clear features. A couple of simple errors were resolved by simply clicking Attempt Fix within the first prompt. Then I asked Bolt to include the Bolt badge but it did not follow the exact badge guidelines, so I had to prompt again with the link to the guidelines and the exact image to use, and it was able to add the badge successfully. The only other "prompt" was me clicking the deploy button to deploy it!! Given that the app was "complete" in the first prompt except for the Bolt badge addition and clicking the deployment button, it should qualify for the one shot prompt challenge!

Challenges we ran into

Bolt did not include a mock OpenAI integration since it did not have my API key in the prompt, so I started a new chat and in that i included instructions to allow me to enter the API key in the env file later but to make sure the OpenAI integration was complete in the first shot!

What's next for Declutter Genie

Future plans include

  • Integrating more advanced market data for pricing accuracy
  • User accounts if users feel like
  • Enhance AI item recognition with better localization and condition assessment
  • Create content customized to a selected resale platform
  • Explore partnerships with resale platforms for direct posting, or maybe even expand our app to start our own resale platform!
