What it does
Inspiration
I kept running into the same problem: I'd make a decision (a tool, a plan, a purchase), and weeks later I couldn't remember why. Worse, I never went back to check whether it was the right call. AI coding tools have the same issue: they forget a decision made ten prompts ago. I wanted a small tool that keeps the reasoning attached to the decision.
What it does
Decision Log lets you:
- Record a decision: context, options considered, what you chose, why, a confidence score (1-5), and a review date
- Search all past decisions by text
- See what's due for review once a review date arrives
- Mark the outcome (worked / didn't work / mixed) with a one-line lesson learned
Everything stays in your browser. There's no login, and nothing is sent to a server.
Who it's for: freelancers, students, small teams, and anyone who asks "why did we do it this way?"
How I built it
I started from an empty folder and used the Devpost Learn Skill Pack inside my coding agent. The skills interviewed me about the idea, then generated scope.md, prd.md, and spec.md before any code was written. I built the app against those docs, one feature at a time. All three planning docs are in the repo.
Challenges
- Cutting scope: my first idea had team sharing, notifications, and AI features. The scope step pushed me to keep only the add, search, review, and outcome loop.
- [Add one real technical challenge you hit, e.g. date handling for "due for review" or localStorage structure.]
What I learned
- Planning before building keeps AI-generated code from drifting. The spec gave the agent something to check against instead of repeating mistakes.
- A smaller scope that works end to end beats a bigger one that doesn't.
- [Add one thing you personally learned.]
