Inspiration
We were inspired by the Kepner-Tregoe method of decision-making and wanted to create a simple tool people could use to short-cut small decisions or dissect BIG ones.
What it does
For small decisions, our app randomly selects one of your options for you; you'll know whether it feels correct.
For BIG decisions, our app helps you determine which factors you care about most, evaluating your choices through one lens at a time. We'll use your preferences to scale each ranking, giving you your most optimal choice at the end.
How we built it
We designed our app in Figma, initially attempting our idea using React, Node.js, and Tailwind CSS. However, things did not go to plan...
Challenges we ran into
We were first-time Hackathoners with no web dev experience. We scrounged through forums, watched tutorials on 2x speed, and hounded our poor mentors. There wasn't much sweat but there were tears. In a semi-satirical last-ditch effort, we tried Scratch.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of not giving up—and pushing an unconventional programming language to its limits.
What we learned
- Plan for detours!
- Don't take yourself too seriously; people matter more than projects
- Scratch can somehow handle stacks and recursion
What's next for Decide4Me
We'd like to expand the number of states accounted for and visualize the results. We'd also like to re-platform onto a custom domain.
