Inspiration In today’s world, most online platforms compromise our privacy, leaving us feeling powerless and waiting for change. Too often, we expect big companies to adapt or build products that suit our needs, rather than taking matters into our own hands. We realized that with the technology available today, we don’t have to just accept the status quo—we can create something better ourselves. Instead of waiting for the next big thing or complaining about market prices, why not use our skills and resources to build a platform that truly respects user privacy and freedom?
What It Does Decentralized Post is a platform where users can communicate and share ideas anonymously, without worrying about their data being collected, tracked, or sold. Built on a serverless architecture, it allows users to rate and appreciate each other’s posts, supporting open expression without sacrificing privacy. Here, freedom of speech and data protection go hand in hand—users are empowered to converse and connect without a second thought about the security of their personal information.
How We Built It We used Remix, an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) tailored for developing, deploying, and debugging Ethereum and EVM-compatible smart contracts. MetaMask was chosen for Ethereum wallet integration as we aimed to connect our user interface and backend with blockchain functionality. This allowed us to experiment with decentralized identity and token-based interactions in a secure and user-friendly way.
Challenges We Ran Into While we successfully developed both the backend and the graphical user interface, integrating Ethereum fully into our model proved challenging. Although we acquired Ethereum test tokens, we encountered hurdles with project structure compatibility and network requirements. Most Ethereum testnet faucets required a minimum balance of 0.01 ETH, sometimes even requesting monetary investment, which wasn’t feasible within the hackathon’s timeframe. As a result, we couldn’t implement full blockchain integration, but these hurdles offered valuable learning experiences.
Accomplishments That We’re Proud Of We’re proud to have built a functional GUI and backend that deliver the core experience we envisioned. Special thanks to our teammate Abhay Sir, whose expertise in blockchain and Web3 technology was invaluable. For Kapil and myself (Adarsh), diving into these new topics was a steep learning curve, but our research and determination paid off. We’re excited to now have a solid foundation and hands-on experience that will propel our future work in this field.
What We Learned This project taught us much more than just technical skills. We learned about blockchain, Web3 applications, Ethereum, and how to develop application-driven projects. More importantly, we improved our ability to manage time, adapt to new concepts quickly, and collaborate effectively as a team.
What’s Next for Decentralized Post Looking ahead, we envision a more connected society—one that isn’t paralyzed by privacy concerns or the fear of data leaks. We want to create a space where people can truly express themselves, share their struggles, and find support without worrying about their information being misused. We believe that by prioritizing privacy, we can empower people to connect authentically and address issues like depression and loneliness, making a real difference in the digital world. Our next steps are to expand the platform’s features, complete blockchain integration, and make Decentralized Post a trusted, safe haven for open and honest conversation.
