Inspiration

When observing that in the world more than 2,100 million tons of waste are generated and only 16% are recycled and if we see the figures in Colombia where 12 Million Tons are produced and only 12% of them are recycled, We saw a great problem and a great opportunity to turn everything that many consider today as garbage into a source of income generation for millions of Colombian households and around the world.

What it does

Encourage and strengthen the exercise of recycling both usable waste (plastic, paper, cardboard, used clothing, used oil, even expired medicines, among others) and organic waste, which generate an incentive by revaluing them, thus contributing to: *Users: They generate additional income to buy, donate or invest. They receive bonuses for referring 5 friends or family. *Shopkeepers: By subscribing with us they will be part of our network of Shopkeepers (bakers, minimarkets, drugstores, stationery stores, etc.) with which you can access better purchase prices (wholesale negotiation), access to financial products (factoring and microfinance) , and increased sales due to increased customers. *Recuperators: Generate more jobs and improve the quality of life of hundreds of families of recuperators whose work is not yet recognized with dignity and legally. *Entrepreneurs: Through E-commerce it is intended to support different enterprises whose purpose is the health and well-being of our planet, promoting decentralized commercialization (any user can commercialize the products of the platform or virtual catalog - prior notice or agreement -) and with the support of the network of shopkeepers we will be able to reach new users.

How we built it

We currently operate with a web platform (E-commerce) for the exchange of Omnicoins (- OMC - currency that users receive for their waste) where they can carry out the donation, investment and / or purchase process. The system is semi-automated since each user enters the web platform requests the points they want to change, the Omnimarket team checks the balance within the user's account and approves the transaction, whether it is a donation, purchase or investment.

Challenges we ran into

1) Create a community that you create in the project 2) Generate strategic alliances with cooperatives or organizations of reclaimers to carry out the collection of waste. 3) Generate strategic alliances with industries and enterprises that require the different recovered raw materials. 4) Manage a significant volume of waste that makes the waste revaluation process cost efficient. 5) Develop the platform and mechanism to be able to convert Omnicoins into CeloDolar and promote their use within our city 6) Expand in different cities and maximize the positive impact of our project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite being a new venture, we have had a very good acceptance by the community, so far we have 100 active registered users and we have managed in less than 1 month of operation 60 kg of waste that is no longer garbage and contaminates our planet, to be raw material for different production processes. In addition to finding a trusted strategic partner that allows us to collect waste has not been an easy task but we know it has been worth it.

What we learned

We learned to negotiate with different companies who are today our allies. We learned about the operation of the Blockchain and especially the magnificent Celo network. We learned to design and structure the collection routes We learned to restructure our business model and generate value through the contributions of each user to the Omnimarket ecosystem

What's next for Decentralized circular economy for a sustainable future

Offer our users the best service by creating a platform in which they can interact with the services offered by Omnimarket and have control over their Omnicoins and / or CeloDlares. Generate greater alliances to strengthen the portfolio of products and services found on our platform Expand to 4 main cities in 2022 which are: Bogotá, Medellín, Cali and Cartagena. Manage more than 1,000,000 tons in 2022 Improve the quality of life of 1000 families in conditions of vulnerability and / or low resources in 2022 Strengthen more than 100 local businesses whose mission is to leave a better planet for future generations. Help materialize more than 50 ventures through decentralized and affordable co-financing for our users. Promote strategic alliances with educational institutions to promote recycling as a means of payment for education and strengthen knowledge of new technologies. Generate more than 100 direct and 2,000 indirect jobs in 2022 Strengthen the local economy of more than 500 shopkeepers in our city, putting products such as factoring, microcredits and volume trading at your service.
