Inspiration
To truly appreciate a complex vintage, a sommelier must first decant it to reveal the pure flavors. We realized human connection needs this exact same care. Inspired by individuals who constantly second-guess their feelings and confuse the exhausting adrenaline of a toxic relationship with "chemistry," we wanted to build a tool that decants the noise of modern dating so users can savor the taste of genuine love.
What it does
Decantier is an empathetic garment and app that decodes your subconscious emotional chemistry. It acts as a "sixth sense" for limbic resonance. The smart undersuit tracks micro-fluctuations in heart rate variability (HRV), cortisol, and hormones, displaying real-time stress levels via hidden weaving patterns on the cuff. The mobile app then translates this data into fluid visual auras and long-term relationship insights.
How we built it
We engineered a seamless data pipeline integrating microfluidic Vagus Nerve sensors and HRV patches into a smart base-layer. Think of our backend architecture like a city’s water filtration system. The physiological sensors act as intake valves collecting raw, murky water (unfiltered, noisy bodily signals). Our algorithms then filter out the "sediment" (environmental noise and baseline physiological states), pumping only the purified, high-signal data into the mobile app to be served as clear, actionable emotional insights.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge was balancing this new sensory perception with user agency. Extra perception comes with profound responsibility. We had to ensure the technology didn't feel intrusive or trigger further anxiety. This led us to design the passive "cuff check" where patterns remain hidden until intentionally revealed by rolling up the sleeve. We also had to heavily prioritize safeguards, ensuring local data storage to guarantee absolute data sovereignty and privacy.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully designed an intimate "Savoring Ritual" (Wear, Interact, Reflect) that feels elegant but is grounded in deep physiological science. We are incredibly proud of translating complex biomarkers into beautiful, intuitive UI elements, such as the "Tactile Time Dial" and the AI Insight Bubbles that reveal monthly emotional patterns.
What we learned
We learned that the body often recognizes the truth long before the brain does. Emotional decision paralysis isn't a lack of feeling; it's a sensory overload. Designing for love and vulnerability requires extreme subtlety—we learned that technology in this space should act as a quiet, private mirror, not a loud alarm.
What's next for Decantier
We plan to refine the AI models powering our insights to better correlate daily physiological data with contextual journaling. We also aim to further miniaturize the sensory patches to make the smart undersuit completely indistinguishable from everyday wear, allowing users to navigate relationships with even greater seamlessness and confidence.
