Inspiration
Interactive solar system models we've all seen as kids that sparked our interest in becoming scientists... but for education on more critical and less-known topics regarding space exploration.
What it does
Our website hosts summaries and links to articles (from NASA, FAS, etc.) about the dangers and potential solutions of space debris. It also showcases our game and team! Our game is a fun interactive platform that showcases Active Debris Removal Technologies NASA scientists have proposed. It aims to educate young aspiring astronauts and scientists on the dangers of space debris... while having fun!
How we built it
Our game was built in Godot, all graphic assets made in Adobe Illustrator, and our website is hosted on Google Sites.
Challenges we ran into
Implementing SFX, music, and UI into the game. Hosting Godot on GitHub pages, and then pivoting to other website hosters.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Coding a fun and impactful game in under 48 hours and building an informational website.
What we learned
The creative solutions scientists have been engineering to remove Space Debris. A deep dive into the technical aspects of Godot. Differences between multiple website hosters (Glitch, Wix, Github Pages, etc.).
What's next for Debris Wars: the Satellite Awakens (Team 2G)
For our Game: Make a tutorial section and menu Showcase more technologies and implement a weapons hot bar More variety of debris
For our Website: Host and embed our game into our own website Start a newsletter/blog that updates users on Space Debris and new games
