Inspiration
Jubilee debate videos (1 Democrat vs 20 MAGA Republicans) and omegle (and omoggle)
What it does
Debattle program connects people with opposing views and hot takes in a friendly and low-stakes environment. Before the debate begins, the participants can choose to play 20 Questions or Pictionary in order to foster connection prior to clashing ideas. During the debate, the players can use an AI Fact Checker to ensure truthful claims and an AI Referee to determine who has won the debate, based on persuasiveness.
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as our programming languages. We started with a simpler program that allowed users to continue inputting their own debate topics and a video chat template. SupaBass was used as the database and Groq AI was used for the AI Fact Checker and Debate referee.
Challenges we ran into
We had a difficult time setting up the AI and the database. Developing the UI was difficult because lack of experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the AI Fact Checker feature and AI Debate Referee because it is useful to regulate the debate. We are also proud of the final products of the mini games, although we were not able to incorporate them directly into the main debate program.
What we learned
We learned how to use the database and how to manage user input. We also gained experience with utilizing AI and incorporating it into our program.
What's next for Debattle
If we had more time, we would add the video camera feature and transcription so that the AI features can record the claims being said, not just typed in the chat.
