Inspiration

Our inspiration stemmed from the desire to create a platform where individuals could engage in meaningful debates, sharpening their communication skills while exploring diverse topics tailored towards their interests while also having fun.

What it does

Debate Me offers a dynamic space for users to participate in debates tailored to their interests. It employs AI-generated topics, provides real-time feedback, and fosters a competitive environment through leaderboards. Debate Me fosters interactive learning experiences, encouraging users to articulate their perspectives and engage in compelling discussions. Its accessibility ensures that anyone, from seasoned debaters to beginners, can participate and grow. By customizing debate modes and offering personalized feedback, Debate Me adapts to individual learning styles, making the journey of skill refinement both engaging and effective.

How we built it

We began with preliminary designs on Figma, defining the app's theme and layout. Front-end development followed, complemented by the establishment of the PostgreSQL database and API endpoints for the back-end. Integration with the GPT API enabled functionalities like generating debate feedback and topics.

Challenges we ran into

Coordinating between separate front-end and back-end teams presented integration challenges. Crafting effective prompts for GPT and ensuring consistent output, particularly for debate judgment, proved demanding. Building a robust API took longer than anticipated due to our team's limited experience in web development and APIs.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully deployed a feature-rich demo encompassing individual debates, feedback mechanisms, and leveling up. Achieving these milestones within the hackathon timeframe validated our dedication and teamwork.

What we learned

Navigating the complexities of web development and APIs enhanced our technical proficiency. Collaborating across teams underscored the importance of seamless integration and communication in project development.

What's next for Debate Me

Our vision includes implementing a multiplayer mode, enabling users to engage in head-to-head debates facilitated by GPT. This expansion aims to elevate Debate Me into a more immersive and competitive platform for honing communication and persuasion skills. GPT may add relevant content to augment these aspects further.
