Inspiration

The Inspiration for this project was the city wide scavenger hunts that are often organized by large companies, as well as the freshman scavenger hunts that send students around campus. We wanted a scavenger hunt that wasn't limited to being played once, and would allow you to track your progress

What it does

The web application produces 5 points of interest around Clemson's campus, and turns them into riddles. You move through the hunt linearly, solving each riddle and asking for hints if needed. As you solve the riddles, you go to that location on Clemson's campus in order to pass the checkpoint and unlock the next riddle

How we built it

The website is hosted on Github pages, and the points of interest and riddles are AI generated, with a backup bank of questions should you lose internet connection. The map uses the device's current location

Challenges we ran into

Using API keys in Github caused issues and eventually we had to create a back end application to make the API calls, that is then pulled into the website using JavaScript.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the variability of the application, as well as the ability to track your real world location and generate hints if necessary.

What we learned

We learned a lot about both web hosting and API calls, and how to integrate the two together to create one application.

What's next for Death Valley Dash

Ultimately, we would like to add more customization options to allow the user to choose how many stops they would like on the scavenger hunt, as well as how large of a radius they would like to play in. Additionally, we would like to eventually add cross device compatibility to allow multiple users to play against each other in the same game.
