Death by Combo

Inspiration

Our inspiration was Kai's bot, which is called Death by Combo. While it is very different from this particular Death by Combo bot, Kai's other bot uses math to play games. This bot uses public health issues to bring the world together.

What it does

This Discord bot can be added to Discord servers for people to interact with the bot and see updates about any pandemics. It's also related to our other goal of spreading information and eventually introducing legislature into governments.

How we built it

The bot was built through discord.py. The full repl link can be found here: https://replit.com/@NotKai1/lastchance#main.py and it was coded mainly by Kai, Scott, and David. We also set up a server to use to test the bot. Claire mainly did things such as the pitch speech, the business model, and the plans for the future.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into many challenges along the way. For example, we got rid of our project halfway through when we realized it wouldn't work and had to come up with an entirely new one. Also, 30 minutes before the project was due, our recording was lost and we had to re-record the whole thing. 10 minutes before the project was due we had to re-record the re-recording because it was too long and was literally impossible to edit given the amount of time the file would take to export and import. 5 minutes before the competition we had to submit the too long recording because the last one didn't save. So we're sorry that the video is too long but it's better than nothing.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the long way that the bot has come in the short amount of time that we had to code it, as well as our ambitious plans for the future and even the present.

What we learned

We learned to manage our time better as well as getting more experience in each of our respective fields.

What's next for Death by Combo

We hope to expand to different countries and introduce legislature there, using our bot as a tool to spread awareness. Countries we hope to see the bot be useful in are Nigeria, India, and many more. Additionally, we hope to expand our bot's functions as well to make it more mainstream and appeal to a wider audience. We also hope to add even more data than we already have, so that our bot will reach even more people with better information.
