Inspiration
Job-searching takes so much time. You have to constantly check job portals, go on coffee chats, get referrals, personalize your resume and cover letters, and spend hours interview prepping. Despite all that effort, you might not even get a job. No, you might not even get a reply back.
It's almost like these companies think we have infinite time when in reality, we don't. Most people don't have the time, energy, or even resources to be able to create personalized, unique cover letters and resumes due to lack of network or other limitations.
During a time of sky-high egg prices and a sparse job market, we wanted to solve a very real problem that not only college students experience, but people of all backgrounds.
What it does
Our product integrates Cohere API to analyze a resume and job description, classify their top key strengths, and generate a personalized cover letter. If users are not satisfied, DHR will ask personalized questions according to the job description to collect more information, making the cover letter smarter and more customized to the individual.
How we built it
We used Figma for our prototype and we used React, JavaScript, Node, HTML, CSS, and Axios to create our final product. We implemented our project using the generate and classify Cohere APIs.
Challenges we ran into
Challenges we ran into were daylight savings (1 hour of sleep in a hackathon is a lot!) and our beginner-status in using React. Additionally because we weren't familiar with Cohere, we had to invest a lot of planning time to learn exactly what Cohere does and their key functionalities.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're so proud of our overall project! We fully believe that everyone deserves the right to resources to help them find a job, regardless of how much time, background, gender, or any other circumstance. We're just excited to keep improving and expanding our product's value proposition.
What's next for Dear Hiring Manager...
Ultimately, we want to become THE 1-stop shop for all things career. We want to make accessing and utilizing career resources easy and accessible to use. Features we want to work on are analyzing the cover letters strengths according to their specific industry/position and an easy-to-download formatter. We also want to provide the same resources for resume building, creating a LinkedIn, interview tips, and more! The possibilities are endless :))
