Inspiration
Isolation due to the current situation was the main inspiration for the project. Diaries are commonly used as a stress management tool where people can reflect and overcome any frustrations they may have. "Dear Diary" is an online alternative with the added benefit of it being hands free.
What it does
Dear Diary, allows users to navigate and write compositions without having to touch their keyboards or mouse! You just need to say the correct commands and this will trigger various actions across the app.
How We built it
We use Speech Recognition API that is in Google Chrome to convert speech to text. We integrated it to a MERN Stack so it can be available as a web app for everyone.
Challenges we ran into
One of the challenges we ran into was giving the user the ability to use both dictation and typing when creating diary entries.
Accomplishments that we are proud of
We are proud that we were able to finish our project in time!
What we learned
Both of us were able to learn more about React and text to speech which is pretty cool!
What's next for dear-diary
Currently there are no new plans for "Dear Diary" but hopefully we'll get a decent number of users and we can implement any suggestions that they may have.
