Inspiration
UGAHacks reminded us in this Hackathon to “be the hero of your own story,” We were inspired to create something that would solve problems that we face, and potentially problems that others face too.
What it does
Our website, Deals for Dawgs, serves as a platform for students and the overall population of Athens, to discover and share information about free and low-cost events happening in the area. Users can browse through the listings to find opportunities to receive free food, swag, and more.
How we built it
We referenced open sources and guides like W3Schools to help us create a website without any prior experience.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges we faced was learning how to code and build a website from scratch. It was something that neither of us was familiar with, so there was a steep learning curve involved in the process.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite the challenges, we are proud of creating a functional website for Deals for Dawgs. Building our first website from the ground up was a significant achievement for us as we did not know how we could tackle our goal.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned valuable skills in web development, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We also learned more about HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and computing using YouTube but also attending workshops.
What's next for Deals for Dawgs
We hope to incorporate a map of event locations for Deals for Dawgs in the future. The website can also be designed better and add bars at the top to search more specifically.
