Inspiration
We were inspired by Fidelity's prompt to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in finance. We think that the greatest barrier to better finances is lack of information, so we sought out a way for communities to help each other in this respect.
What it does
DealRacer allows local communities to share money-saving deals, sales, and coupons in their area. Users can vote on these posts, comment, search and filter by distance, score, time posted, and more. Using DealRacer makes budgeting knowledge more easily and widely accessible, especially benefiting those with less access to financial information and education.
How we built it
We built DealRacer using Django on the backend, boostrap on the front end, among other technologies.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into issues with merging together our individual changes. In this fast-paced environment, it can frequently happen that two or more developers can get out of sync.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of our hard work, and the amount we learned in such a short time. As of one week ago, we had little to no knowledge of web development, but I'm proud to see how far we've come in just a short time.
What we learned
We learned good developer practices, collaboration, about the details of the HTTP protocol, django, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and BootStrap.
What's next for DealRacer
In the future, we would like to improve the user experience for DealRacer. We plan to make posts more expressive, with multimedia attachments. Additionally, we want users to take pride in how they've helped they're community. We plan to aid this by implementing a leader board, for most people helped. We are also exploring the idea of integrating AI, so users can have a human-like conversation to advise them on what deals to pursue and other ways to save money.
