DeafConnect AI is an AI-powered communication assistant created to help deaf and hard-of-hearing people communicate more easily in real-time. Inspiration As someone who understands the communication challenges faced by deaf individuals, I was inspired to build a solution that improves accessibility and inclusion. Many deaf people face barriers when interacting in schools, workplaces, hospitals, and public spaces. What it does Deaf connect AI converts spoken language into clear text instantly and helps simplify communication between deaf and hearing people. It aims to make conversations faster, easier, and more inclusive. How we built it We designed the project using Google Cloud AI tools and Agent Builder concepts to process speech input, convert it into text, and present understandable responses in real time. Challenges we faced One major challenge was designing a solution that is simple, accessible, and practical for real-world use while learning how to integrate AI tools effectively. What we learned We learned how AI can solve accessibility problems and how Google Cloud technologies can be used to create practical solutions for social impact. What’s next We plan to improve Deaf connect AI with sign-language support, multilingual translation, and mobile accessibility to reach more users globally.
