About the Project

Inspiration

India’s MSME sector is the backbone of the economy, contributing significantly to GDP and employment, yet millions of skilled workers—artisans, tailors, vendors—struggle to grow their income due to lack of financial awareness and market access. (pib.gov.in)

Through research, we discovered a key gap:

  • Many micro-entrepreneurs do not maintain proper financial records
  • They lack pricing knowledge, market visibility, and access to schemes
  • Poor financial tracking directly impacts profitability and growth (ijmra.in)

This inspired us to build a system that does not expect users to be financially literate, but instead acts as their intelligent assistant.

What We Built

We built a web-based, app-like platform that helps skilled workers:

  • Set the right price for their products
  • Track profit/loss simply
  • Discover where to sell (platform suggestions)
  • Get personalized government schemes and loans
  • Interact via AI chat (text, voice, and presets)

The core idea: Capture minimal input → deliver maximum actionable advice

How We Built It

Frontend

  • React + Tailwind CSS
  • Mobile-first, app-like UI
  • Scrollable sections for usability
  • Chat-based interface as the primary interaction

Backend (Conceptual Architecture)

  • User profile engine (business + personal data)
  • Financial engine (profit estimation and trends)
  • Pricing engine (cost + market-based suggestions)
  • Scheme matching engine (rule-based filtering)
  • AI layer (converts data into simple advice)

Core Logic

We simplified financial tracking using:

$$ \text{Profit} = \text{Sales} - \text{Expenses} $$

And when data is incomplete:

$$ \text{Estimated Profit} = \text{Sales} \times (1 - \text{benchmark cost %}) $$

This avoids complex accounting while still enabling decision-making.

What We Learned

  • Users do not want tools, they want answers
  • Simplicity is more important than accuracy for adoption
  • Financial literacy is a bigger barrier than access to tools
  • Personalization by profession is critical:

    • A tailor, vendor, and artisan have very different needs

We also observed that:

  • Lack of financial records reduces access to credit and growth
  • Poor financial decisions often limit business success more than lack of skill

Challenges Faced

1. Data Availability

Users do not track detailed financial data Solution: minimal input with intelligent estimation

2. Over-Complexity

Initial designs were too complex and finance-heavy Solution: shifted to a chat-first, simplified UI

3. Personalization

Ensuring only relevant schemes and advice are shown Solution: rule-based filtering using business type and profile

4. Trust and Accessibility

Target users may have low digital literacy and language barriers

Solution:

  • Voice input
  • Hindi and English support
  • Simple, clear responses

Final Vision

Build a financial and growth assistant for skilled workers—helping them earn more, make better decisions, and access the right opportunities without needing financial expertise.

This is not just a tool. It is a decision engine for the underserved workforce.
